Comfort

There’s a balance in our well being that I think people in industrialized countries are seriously neglecting. Too often and for too much do we rely technology to cater to our every little comforts and compliants. At the slightest bit of discomfort, we run to something to make it better.

Mind you, these are not life threatening discomforts, just general little ones, and yet we react to them all equally.

If we feel a little warm, we instantly turn down the thermostat, if we’re a little bit cold, we instantly turn up the thermostat. If we have a little ache or pain, we run to the medicine cabinet. Nowadays, if we’re even a little bit crazy, there’s a pill to make it all better too. Of course, I’m exaggerating a little here, but not really.

I’m not against modern inventions and technology, but there is a point where we need to realize that just because we can be a little bit more comfortable, we don’t need to be and it’s ok to just suck it up a little. It's not bad to teach your body to adapt.

I think as a species we’re making ourselves weaker in a physical sense. Sure, there’re super athletes out there and very healthy people all over the place, but in general, I think we’re losing some of our physical well being. We’re becoming soft, fat, and complacent.

We’ve forgotten what it’s like to be in nature. In nature without all our advances to control it, and to live without our technology. I’m not saying we go back and live in the stone ages or anything. Everyone knows I’d go crazy without my indoor pluming. There is just a balance that we need to have and not to allow ourself to be completely dependent.

What would happen if we lost our technological advancements all of a sudden? How many people do you think will make it? At the slightest discomfort, how many of us do you think will just give up? Not ever having known any sort of discomfort.

Besides making ourselves weaker, by depending on technology so much, we also in turn become dependent to energy resources. As you know, this isn’t going to work out very well unless we create different ways to create energy.

Next time you feel like doing something just to make yourself a little more comfortable, think if you really need to waste resources to do that.

Maybe you can suck it up a little. Stop being such a wuss. It's really not too bad to tough things out.

Can you stand at the door of the ER this weekend and tell everyone this? I think they REALLY need to KNOW!

I couldn't do what you do. I'd be sued ALL the time for calling people names and kicking them out without treating them.
