Welcome Back Sunday
For the longest time, I've had a nice little Sunday routine going. I would wake up to a great radio show called 'Organic X'. I'd go downstairs and get the Sunday paper and a juice. Read over the paper, check out some ads, and cut out a few coupons. By then, it's time for one of my favorite shows of the week. Meet the press with Tim Russert.
I got really attached to this routine. It was a wonderful start to the last day of the weekend before having to go back to the mundane of work the next day.
Soon, things started to fall apart. The radio station that played Organic X no longer existed. Having been replaced by some top 40s station that replayed the highlights of the week's morning show. Not the same.
Then it totally fell apart when Tim Russert passed away unexpectedly. That totally destroy any resemblance of my Sunday. Meet the Press was the anchor of my Sunday. Tim Russert was the anchor of the anchor of my Sunday. Without him, it's not the same.
For months and months, I didn't know what to do on Sunday. I didn't have my routine. I looked for stuff to do. I tried doing different things. Some of it was quite fun, but it just didn't stick. It just wasn't my thing.
Well, I'm happy to report, I think I may have found a good anchor for new my Sunday down under routine. I found this place completely by accident. I was walking around with a friend when I heard some music coming from a pub. Not that I needed that much convincing to go visit a pub, we went in to check things out.
Then I saw it. There was a jazz band playing some great old time tunes. The average age in the pub was about 65. Yea, they're old, but they were rocking it. The band was really good. They had great sets (unfortunately, they had to take a break after a few songs, but that's understandable).
It was great seeing these old folks rocking out to the music. They were dancing and this week, they were singing. This is where the band was really impressive. One of the old ladies would walk up to the band and tell them a song, and they would know the song. Very impressive stuff.
So I think I'm going to make the visit to this pub part of my regular Sunday routine.
Here's to rebuilding my Sundays.

Decisions Decisions
Ok folks, I need some help in making a decision on where to live. Here're the two scenarios I'm working with.
Choice 1:
Standard 1 bedroom apt.
Wonderful view of the Harbour bridge and the city
Fully furnished
Choice 2:
Share the apt with 2 girls
1 bathroom
A tiny room in an apt. Like really small/Can barely fit a double bed and that's it
Area for an office
Unfurnished room, so will have to buy bed
It's $520 cheaper a month + only 1/3 utilities
Have good friends that live across the hall. 2 guys and a girl. It's almost like a 'Friends' scenario.
They all go out and hang out together
Being that I'm in the city all by myself, and that my coworkers are pretty much non-existent. I can instantly have 5 friends. Very tempting. The room is so tiny though. Although I would save quite a bit per month.
Here's the other thing. The girls will be making a few more interviews and will decide by Friday. If I want that 1 bedroom, I'll have to act fast. The rental market here is ridiculous. The renters have said it's a quick turnaround so if I apply tomorrow, I should be able to move in by friday if all goes well. This is before the girls make the decision.
What should I do?

Home
I've been searching for a home for a while now. I've tried looking everywhere I can. I've lived in many places. Next month, I'll be moving to the other side of the world.
As I do with each new place I've moved to, I'll find a nice area that I want to be, a nice place to stay. I'll think about how I'm going to be using each room, how I will furnish and decorate each area. I'll think about how to entertain, throw parties and hopefully accomodate my vistors that stays over. I have no doubt I'll find another great place.
Everywhere I go, it's always just going to be a great place. I have no doubt of that.
Until you’re here though, it’ll never be a home.

Weekend of Awesomeness
Oh where do I start? After another long week at work, I was so ready to just relax.
It started out great as on Thursday, I went to probably the best Chinese restaurant I’ve ever been to. The chef had won the national cooking championship in China 2 years in a row (why we don’t have that here is beyond me. We’re so lame when it comes to food). I was a little hesitant first at the name, Tasty China. Seriously, that sounds like the name a stripper or a porn star.
The menu had some interesting things on it that I’ve never seen. Not ingredient wise, just the way it was prepared. Most I’ve never heard of. I was a little hesitant on that too so I ordered what I usually order. Our waiter, who also happens to be the owner, said that I didn’t want that. I said no? He said no. He told me what to order instead. He did the same with what my friend ordered.
All I have to say is that the food was amazing. It was like nothing I’ve ever tasted before. I’ve used the phrase ‘a party in my mouth’ without truly knowing what that means. I think I know what that means now.
On Friday, there was yummy Indian food followed by a few games of Battleship at the bar. Board games in the bar is just plain awesome. We also went to a possible venue/bar for St. Paddy’s day. What? You don’t test drive bars before deciding to stay there for most of the day?
It was a nice old Irish bar. They had a good Scotch/whisky menu with great prices. I order a Guinness to try it out. After all, any Irish pub worth anything should know how to pour a Guinness. My Guinness was a bit flat and tasteless. My 2nd beer and both of my friend’s beers both tasted funny as well. Oh well, so much for that bar.
Some friends stayed over from the night before. Too much drinking and Karaoke Revolution-ing. For lunch, we went to a place called Ann’s snack shop. It was a little trailer with 6 seats in a not so good neighborhood.
The lady working there, Ann, was this small thin 70-ish looking lady. She might seem nice, but she’s the burger Nazi. No burger for you! First of all, you have to be in one of the 6 seats to get served. When someone would walk in after the seats are taken, she would yell something to the effect of ‘Can’t you see it’s full? Get out and wait with the rest of the people.” It was fantastic.
I ordered the Ghetto burger. Yes, that’s what it’s called. It’s a monstrous (I’m thinking probably 1.5-2 pounds of beef) thing of heart attack beauty. To create this monster, I first saw Ann put strips of bacon in the deep fryer. She probably thinks bacon is too good for you, so let’s deep fry it. She then uses the bacon grease to deep fry the fries. OMG, I could feel my arties clog up. It was so good I couldn’t stop eating though.
After my friends woke from a short grease induced coma, we went to the park. You could not ask for a better day. The temperature was perfect. The sun was out but not too shinny. The ladies were taking advantage of the first warm weekend to let the girls come out. I love warm weather.
I wasn’t sure if we were allowed to drink in the park, so I carried a cooler that looked like a backpack to conceal it if I needed to. Boy was I wrong. When we got there, everyone was just walking around with a beer in their hand or a case.
What probably was the best part of the park was who was also there. I saw an all male cheerleading squad practice their routine. It’s everything like you’d think it’d be. Simply fantastic.
I’m quickly reminded of why I moved into the city. This is so unlike suburbia. There were only a few kids running around. Everyone was drinking and having a good time. I mentioned the all male cheerleading squad right? This was just what I’m looking for.
Today, I got inspired to do some landscaping and I redid a lot of the front of the house. I trimmed all the bushes, put down new cedar mulch, put in a little curb fence thingy, and I planted some flowers. This is the first time I’ve ever planted flowers. I was quite impressed with myself. I’m becoming quite domestic. I got some Begonias and Inpatients and I also planted some sunflowers. That should be awesome if all comes together.
This week has some big events planned. Hope it’s as good as this last weekend.

It's all mine!
I closed on the house on Friday. I'm now an official home owner! Even though everything in the house is in great shape I still walk around saying, "yea, let's switch that out or that needs to go." All these hours of watching HGTV is finally going to pay off.
Oh, this will be fun. First things first. Who's up for some painting?

My Lucy's Back...
My lucy's back, and you're gonna be in trouble
When you see her comin', better cut on the double
(Hey la, hey la, my Lucy's back)
You've been spreadin' lies that I was untrue
So look out now, 'cause she's comin' after you (Hey la, hey la, my Lucy's back)
Hey, she knows that you've been tryin' And she knows that you've been lyin'
She's been gone for such a long time
(Hey la, hey la, my Lucy's back)
Now, she's back, and things will be fine
You're gonna be sorry you were ever born
(Hey la, hey la, my Lucy's back)
Not only is Lucy back, she now has a new protector. Meet Gloomy.
Gloomy
Don't let their soft fuzzy bodies and big eyes fool you.. gloomy bears are killers. Just take a look at those claws!

Movin' on up
Well we're movin on up, To the east side.
To a deluxe house that’s painted like the sky.
Movin on up, To the east side.
We finally got a place that’s all mine.
Fish don't fry in the kitchen;
Beans don't burn on the grill.
Took a whole lotta tryin' Just to get up that hill.
Now we're up in the big leagues
Now we're up in the big leagues
Gettin' our turn at bat.
As long as we live, it's Pup and me baby
There ain't nothin wrong with that.
Well we're movin on up, To the east side.

Beat down by the hands of fate once again
Things have been simply awful the last month. Things going from bad to worst. Then, out of the blue, I’m finally given some relief. I win my first ever ultimate tournament. I had a good weekend going to a Bourbon distillery and a drive in (first time ever).
Thing were picking up for the Pup. Of course, not being able to stand that, fate comes in with a royal beat down. It's one thing to pick on me, but you've gone too far.
Sitting still in the middle of the turn lane, someone pulled out and without looking, smacked into me and Lucy. My hand isn’t well, but I’m fine. Lucy took the blunt of the impact. She’s not doing well at all.
All this and I couldn’t even call the one person I wanted to talk to.
I don’t know what I’ve done to continuously get beat down like this.
I think it’s about time to lift the Jack ban at the house. Jack, Welcome home.

Beware of Pup
This sinus infection that I got (again) is putting me in the worst mood. Everyone and everything is seriously irritating me. I can’t breath, it hurts to talk or swallow, and there’s blood in my very painful coughs.
Funny how that’ll put a person in a bad mood.
Only good thing is I did get an awesome low raspy voice.

Time to Change... Something... Anything
Somthing needs to change. I'm not sure what, but something gotta change. I'm seeing a pattern lately that's been more apparent recently.
In all aspects of my life lately, I've come close to getting what I want, but there would always be a major flaw. I'm not blind enough to always blame the flaw on others when it doesn't work out, because I know some of this is me, but damn. What the hell? Seems like there's something or someone just fucking with me.
My life like a strip club. Always a tease. Well, that's all the similarities really cause there's no hot or skanky chicks around here and I don't enjoy drunk dudes hanging around my couch.
For example, I'm house hunting. There are so many homes I've seen as good, not perfect, but good enough that I can do with. Then a big thing would happen like bad school systems (resell reasons), in airport flight path (noisy), giant radio tower in backyard, or someone buying it before me. Those are total deal breakers.
It's hard enough to find a house I like cause what I'm a bit specific in what I like, and it's hard to find in the area of town I want to live. When I do find one, crap happens.
Strangely, same thing with the ladies. Some seems so perfect on paper or when people talk about them, and are in person too, but then for whatever reason, no sparks between us (maybe it's that whole dating yourself thing. Why bother huh?). Then there are those that I'd have lots of sparks with, but sadly are seriously unstable and undatable. Of course there's always that one from the past that I still wish things were differnt with. I know it's me in a lot of these cases, but damn. Can't a good one just come along... without the major problem this time?
With the spring coming, something needs to change. I don't know what or how, but something's gonna be different.
Personally, I blame it on Jesus. I just found out I'm the spotlight employee of the month for April. Jesus doesn't like competition with the whole I rose from the dead to be our all might lord and savior, April's my month bitches, blah blah blah.
I'm on to you JC. Share the spotlight. Stop fucking with me and help a brotha out.
:D

House Hunting Pup
The work has been overwhelming busy lately. Luckily, due to the incompetence of a certain VP at a very large fortune 100 company, I have a little time today.
I was wondering what I should write about having been absent for a while. I had an overload when I was thinking of all the political things out there. The world is so screwed up right now it’s scary. Luckily for most of the American population, they have learned to turn a blind eye to everything except for themselves and their own pocketbooks.
Just a few quick comments though because I can’t resist.
- Mark my words, this hurricane season will be the worst ever. Blame it on Mother Nature or God being angry or whatever excuses all you want. Just keep on driving that 10mpg SUV and see what happens.
- Millions of adults and children are dying in Africa through disease and genocide. The United States has pledged $5.1 billion in the next 5 years to help buy vaccines. That’s the same amount of money we spend PER DAY in Iraq. We sure have our priorities straight. Nice Christian values by the way. War over saving people.
- While we waste all of our resources in a never ending, never winnable war, education and social programs are greatly suffering, China and Saudi Arabia is buying up the US piece by piece and we inch ever closer to a military state. Soon the terrorists will have what they've wanted.
- While this administration has all our military resources tied up in Iraq, the real threats of Iran and North Korea continues to buy time and grow ever stronger and ever nuclear.
- We have “liberated” Afghanistan to become the biggest opium producers in the world. Yea for freedom and democracy.
- While this administration keeps telling us to fear terrorists from other countries, the real terror is from within like the governor of South Dakota signing a bill to ban abortion. Do you know why the terrorists will eventually stop fighting us? Not because we've killed them or they've changed their mind. It's because we’re on a path to be just like them.
- With a base salary of $165,200 per year (not including benefits and more for seniority), congress is scheduled to work about 97 days this YEAR. That averages to about $213 an hour for the base salary. The average American has worked 50 days to congress’s 19 days so far this year. The minimum wage is still at $5.15/hour.
Hmm. Guess I didn’t get to write about my house hunting adventures. We’ll get to that next time. Just for fun, I went with my sister to look at an open house that was on the market for $1.7 million dollars. OMG.
There was a walk in pantry in the kitchen that was the size of a small bedroom. Any of the 3 floors would make a nice 3 bedroom house for a family.
More on that later!

Don Pup-o-Vanni
One of Mozart’s better known and most performed operas (for those of you that go to operas) based on the character of Don Juan.
I was in Minnesota this past weekend watching this Opera. Yes I know this hurts my redneck status and No, I don’t just fly to other cities to watch Operas. A good friend (I've known since back in the 8th grade) had one of the leading roles for this show. It was his biggest role yet. Throughout the past few years I’ve always went to watch and support him when he had a big role.
We’ve always been pretty good friends this whole time. We even share the same birthday. As we grow older, it is always interesting to reflect on how you got to where you are and those around you.
In a sold out opera house of 1750 attendees, it was amazing watching someone you’ve known for so long up there on stage performing. His voice roared through the opera house. Though I maybe a little biased, he was by far the best in the cast. The audience thought so too as he received the loudest applauds at the end of the show.
I was very proud to know him after the show as he took me backstage to see how it all happens in the background and to meet the other cast members. I was like a giddy groupie telling people who I knew. I think it’s so interesting the life that he has chosen. It’s certainly not the boring 9-5 life that everyone else I know lives.
I know he'll go far. He's a great talent and a great person. Even more importantly, knowing the Pup goes a long way (to where I don't know, but I'm sure it's somewhere).
I can’t wait to see him perform at the Met in New York City.

FreePup
I just realized that I’m all talk when it comes to being a red neck (yes, I refer to myself as a redneck sometimes but that’s neither here or there). I checked my MP3 collection last night and realized that I don’t have Skynyrd’s original version of Freebird.
OMG.
Seriously, what kind of self respecting redneck does not have the original version of Freebird? I’m so embarrassed.
After shouting “Freebird” numerous times at concerts (most famously at a Tori Amos concert which she heard and laughed) and at other public events/place, and even one verse at a karaoke bar, I didn’t even have a copy of the original.
I watched a movie last night that had Freebird as the big ending song. Gotta tell ya, it got me pretty fired up and this was 1 in the morning. I ran upstairs to look for the song to rock out to, but found that my Skynyrd collection only consisted of Sweet Home Alabama.
I panicked and though I don’t like them, I bought the song off itunes.
Now I’m rocking out to Freebird at 2am.
To make up for this I’ll be getting back to those red neck roots this weekend. Nothing but PBR and the High Life.
Have a good weekend everyone!

The Votes are in!
The question and answer sessions were brutal. The debates, campaigning, and political manuvering have taken its course. After much deliberation and a threat of fillibuster, the votes are finally in and counted.
Please welcome.. The One, The Only,
Stay tuned. Coming up Next, Week in Review: San Francisco
Here are some fabulous questions we will be exploring.

Well here she is!
First of all, let me tell you. I hate the process of car shopping more than anything. I hate car dealerships. I hate sales and finance people. Here's a shorten list of things I would much rather do than deal with car dealerships:
Get trapped in a city of Zombies (which btw, I'm fully prepared for now. Thanks!)
Get hit in the balls with a ball
Drunken puking
Bible study
Anyway. After skipping out on a meeting (people need to get a fucking life and not schedule meetings at 5:30pm on a Friday), I finished cleaning out Big Red and got her ready to be fully washed and cleaned. When I was cleaning, there were a lot of memories lodged between and under those seats.
There were directions to lots of places I've been. A Bra. My old glasses. A number of wedding invitations. Some remains of a few times when I had to pass out in the back seat. Probably a dozen lighters and matches. And of course, a few good knives.
Big Red and I had some good times together. After almost 10 years and 133,000 miles, we've built a good lot of memories that only we share. The countless hours of my bad singing, dancing, and general bad driving. We traveled from the east coast to the Rockies and back. We've made dozens of trips to the Big Easy. She had her fits, but she was always there for me.
One of my fondest memories of Big Red was when she held steady during my scariest drive home from Denver to Colorado Springs when a fresh coat of snow and ice was on the ground and I was literally spinning around in the streets in Dever. Luckily it was 3:30am, so no cars were around. The drive home usually takes an hour. With the snow so fresh, the sweepers hadn't been out yet. It continued to snow hard during the entire drive. It took me about 3 hours to get home. She held steady beneath the snow storm and we made it ok.
When I was at the dealership, they told me I would not get much for Big Red. They mentioned a couple of things bad about her and I almost kick the guy in the balls for talking bad about my girl. You can't put a price on the experience and memories we've had, but apprently you can on a car with the check engine light on and no hub caps.
There are a lot of reasons why Big Red is so special to me. The most important ones I've never told anyone, and those that would know the connection have not made them. It was hard letting her go. I thought about donationing her or driving her off a cliff. I know that's how she would've wanted to go. I took the easy way out, I know.
Well it's the end of a chapter between me and Big Red. When you go out tonight, pour a little bit of your 40oz out for Big Red. She would like that.
So now I've got the new car. It's pretty amazing with all the features. My favorite so far is the rear camera. When I put the car in reverse, the screen will show what's behind me so I don't run over anything.
I've thought about it, and to respect Big Red and her memories, I'm going to give the new car a new name.
This is where you come in. I'm open for suggestions. Have at it in the comments!
Happy Saturday!

Old School
Like every Christmas for the last 10 years or so, a few of my high school friends get together for our annual Christmas dinner somewhere fancy.
The degree of dinner fanciness has changed with the times as well. I think the first few years we went to the waffle house, then it was off to Outback or another steakhouse of that level, and these last few years, the dinners have been amazing at some very nice places.
It’s really interesting to see how far some of them have come in their professional and personal life. Maybe it’s just the group, but they all seem to be doing quite well. We hear about others that we knew in high school that isn't fairing quite as well, and it's good to see the ones that I care about and keep in contact are doing well.
For many of us, this is the only time we see each other every year. Although you’d never be able to tell that if you saw us together. I guess knowing each other since 9th grade or longer makes you pretty familiar with someone.
It's not that we don't want to know about all the details of each other's lives, but we don't think it's necessary. We always know the big and important things. It's something nice to look forward to during this time to be able to catch up with all the little details.
A lot of things may have changed with our lives, but they’re all still the same people on the inside. It’s like I always say, people don’t really change.
Sometimes, that’s not a bad thing.
